The Effects of Telephone Counseling on Patient Management: A Literature Review
Lee Jeong-Rim

Abstract
Telephone counseling is often used in the field of diabetes education, which is characterized by poor systematic follow-up in South Korea. We conducted a literature review of studies that evaluated the effects of telephone consultation on patient care. Most of these studies found that telephone consultations led to improved self-management skills and self-efficacy. However, although the positive effects were maintained in the short term, the long-term effects were less significant. Further research and strategic development are required to develop tools for effective enhancement of patient self-management skills and self-efficacy.
